Wait, what? It’s not even Wednesday! Let me explain…
So many of us yearn for creative companionship and simple spiritual nourishment. How do they connect? What does that have to do with this story?
Ever striving…
We’ve walked paths and followed teachers, explored shadows and healed trauma, leaned into fears and empowered ourselves rigid.
We’ve braved herd mentality, peaceful dictates, and endless contradictions.
We can’t face yet another -ism or fixed identity, and wince at vapid iterations of obsolete traditions.
We’re queasy with promises of sappy self-improvement and manifestation mantras, and can’t wait to shed our yogic straitjackets.
We’re empathetic and vulnerable, but may well lose it if we read another narrative stuck in woe-is-me mentality.
We’re generally spirited, gritty, valiant, with a touch of overwhelm bordering on enlightenment burnout.
We can get lonely, with our big brimming heart and enthusiasm.
I get it. I had to walk non-dualism to its edge before I found the oomph to reclaim my sovereignty and to embrace my own blend of innate spirituality.
I said ‘no’ and shed old ideas of perfection.
I quit worshipping, obeying, ‘forever’ vows, and complicated rituals.
What I longed for was there all along: spiritual expression that is pared back, joyful, alive, doing what feels most organic.
For me, it was only ever about
Feeling sunshine on my face.
Choosing love.
Sitting still in the company of trees, holding space for music through concerts and retreats.
Softening into change.
A wave that had been building for 30 years surged during the crazy two-year Covid period, and washed my life inside out. It was rough and messy, and so worth it.
Faye’s Wing is written as a sampler of what is possible when we shed old programs and listen in without an agenda. A sampler might be:
a creative piece of cloth embroidered with writing or images;
a device allowing you to record parts of other people’s songs and use them to create new music;
an example which gives an idea of what an event or experience is like.
My story serialises a woman’s creative quest for fulfilment beyond spiritual dogma. Its multimedia approach weaves in music and visuals from contributing artists.
As a sampler, it also aims to:
discover the hidden beauty of this fertile period, in writings, images, and music;
generate new music and images, blending fragments from the personal experience of fellow creatives.
The story is an interactive invitation to freely nourish and express your own spirituality, exactly as you are: embodied, feeling, mindful.
I hope it will inspire you and that you will join me here as we discuss, share, make meaning and beauty, celebrate, laugh, and chat to other intrepid creatives through live events and podcasts for donating subscribers (coming soon).
Please message me if you are a musician or a visual artist who wants to contribute pieces inspired by this space.
I love this. Hurrah! Wish I could be a contributing musician or artist... Hmm, maybe this is the point where I start creating, though I'll probably be incubating a while longer. Looking forward to seeing what people come up with!
